Activities
Vava’u is truly Natures Aquatic Adventureland and The Tongan Beach Resort is located at the crossroads of everyday Vava’u life afloat. Each of the water based activity operators pass our doorstep (actually our wharf ) everyday. Choose from an array of activities including diving, snorkeling, kayaking tours, kite surfing, big game sport fishing, sailing (overnight or day trips), or a more leisurely island tour aboard a water taxi. Powered Kayak tours are available from the “Old Harbour”, these jet boat powered kayaks are great fun and, whilst you drive your own for the tour, a guide takes you to hidden island gems located to the eastern side of Vava’u.
If your desire is to stay at the resort for the day we offer a selection of kayaks (single and double), snorkeling equipment and bicycles for guest use – free of charge. Or – just lie back and enjoy the resort sun loungers dotted along the waters edge.
If something by land takes your fancy, then there is lots to see around the main island of Vava’u, Land tours around the island of Vava’u take approximately four hours and include a visit to a plantation, a vanilla farm, the world class “Ene’io Botanical gardens”, local villages plus the Catholic Basilica and local market in Neiafu.
A popular land tour option is the Kart Safaris, these single and two seater off road Karts are “U Drive” - following along behind a guide who takes you through tracks cut in the virgin rain forest, plantations and along the north eastern cliffs which offer you panoramic views back over the Vava’u island group and out across the Blue Pacific Ocean. But, be prepared and bring some older clothes as you will get dirty.
Located nearby to the resort is Heilala Vanilla plantation – a boutique plantation which exports most of its high end quality vanilla for use in up market restaurants around the globe. Heilala Vanilla recently won awards at the “Cuisine” Artisan Awards. Tours are provided at various times of the year upon request – these must be booked through the resort reception desk.
"We've just arrived home in OZ from a week at the Tongan Beach Resort and we want to get on a plane and fly back. Vava'u is the northern group of islands in Tonga. If flying, you'll arrive in the Tongan capital Nuku'alofa then take a domestic flight to Vava'u. We made this trip to swim with the Humpback whales for my 40th birthday and luckily booked the Tongan Beach Resort to stay at. The resort has its own private beach with good entry level snorkelling. It has its own jetty too, which is great because any boat trip or tour you book will pick you up right there at the resort.
The Staff there are fantastic, Happy and genuinely Friendly. The rooms were spotlessly clean as was the whole resort..."
